Buyer Do’s & Don’ts
The purchase of a home or any other type of real estate is one of the five most important elements that comprise our lives. It should be done with thought, research and location of the right resources that will assist you in the buying process. Looking online is a beginning, while taking the next step with a showing appointment to evaluate its potential to meet your needs is another.
Here are some suggestions today’s Buyer should consider before taking the plunge into home ownership:
- Make a plan to lay the groundwork for future goals. Have a realistic idea of your wants and needs. What exterior/interior features of the home are necessary to bring you to weekend, seasonal or retirement bliss? Make a list of items you cannot compromise on. Look online for similar properties that meet your expectations.
- Do some due diligence on your own of mortgage rates, terms and type of closure involved with a mortgage (taxes, home insurance, association dues, escrow, etc.) You might also want to consider having pre-qualifying paperwork in place should you find a home sooner than you think!
- Select a real estate professional who is experienced throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. Determine the type of agency that properly represents your interests. Keep in mind that not all agents are Buyer’s Agents!
- Make an appointment to visit homes with your Realtor. Your agent will arrange a showing at your convenience and keep track of the home features that attract you. Your Realtor can assist you in preparing an Offer to Purchase as well as the Agreement of Sale once you and the seller come to terms. Realtors in Pennsylvania do much more than other agents in some states. For example, they recommend inspectors, mortgage lenders/brokers, attorneys for legal representation, Title companies and local services you will need for setting up your home.
